The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this groundbreaking franchise.
